I Am Defenseless in This World

The connection, the attachment to bodily flesh is much stronger than one may think. Growing up overweight has its disadvantages. For one, fat-shaming was a negative topic that constantly surrounded me. The shameful feeling of being bigger than others has shaped me into who I am today, especially as an artist. 

In “I Am Defenseless in This World”, I show a physical embodiment of both my positive and negative thoughts towards my fat. The use of audio and color is especially important in this film. While the negative sounds are strongly correlated to the green-covered hands, the softer, positive tones are mostly associated with the purple-covered hands. 

Creating art, and including my raw self is something that puts me inside this vulnerability box, but with the help of my family and friends in creating this short film, I was able to put my body on display and have not a single cloud of shame or regret hang over my head.
