Hello! My name is Isabella Mendoza, and I am a mixed-media artist based in New York City. Originally from Miami, Florida, I have been a creative soul since I can remember. I am currently in my 4th year at The School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan and on track to complete my Bachelors in Fine Arts. I have a passion for color, dreams, clothing, fashion, trumpets, the orchestra, the theatre, curation and directing, surrealism, poetry, memories, your weird thoughts, my weird thoughts, and things that cease to exist (until I create them). These topics are important to me because they have root connections to my childhood and adolescence, and I want to create a wonderful world of colorful catastrophe, juxtaposing emotions, and tales as old as time.

My art derives from my complex relationship with memories, music, and the world of dreams. I revisit my memories, in which the memory itself does not exist. I create scenes and creatures that exist in my mind and need to escape. Including my friends and family as characters in my pieces solidifies a connection between the real world and the surrealistic reality I live daily. Connecting the people physically in my life and the people in my mind creates a deeper-rooted connection to the version I see of the people I depict. With no limitations, I enjoy using all sorts of mediums because I have specific ideas that will not favorably translate if I choose to do a painting over a performance piece. I am open about the memories I depict, but may never reveal the truth.
